Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant - Top Signature Margaritas Part I

Out of all of the cocktails worldwide, the margarita is undoubtedly one of the most delicious and well-known mixed drinks. Made with tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice, and a hint of orange liquor, these signature drinks are reminiscent of soaking up the sunshine on the beach. The tequila and lime base of margaritas also allows for many different customization possibilities, including tropical fruit and citrus margaritas.

The origin of the margarita is somewhat of a mystery. There are mixed reviews regarding who first came up with this famous drink, but cocktail recipe books show that similar recipes have been around for many years leading up to the first printed recipe in 1948, naming it the “margarita.”

According to some bartenders, the traditional flavor combination of tequila with lime juice and salt was inspired by how many people take a tequila shot: In a shot glass with a wedge of lime and a sprinkling of salt. Over the years, the margarita has been customized with different flavors, one of which being the addition of Cointreau, an orange liquor. Regardless of the addition of other flavors, the tradition of a true margarita remains loyal to a strong tequila base and a hint of lime.

Served on the rocks or blended, margaritas are the perfect companion to Mexican food. The citrus flavor and smooth tequila notes highlight the ingredients in many different Mexican dishes, including fajitas, pico de gallo, and seafood enchiladas.
